Today, I had the opportunity to test the new Adaptive Power 2.0 update on the Cowboy Cruiser. The update process itself was remarkably smooth and fast, setting a new standard in the industry. Kudos to Cowboy for this seamless experience.
In my testing, I tackled the same hills where I had previously ridden VanMoofs, the C4 Classic, and the Cruiser equipped with Adaptive Power 1.0 (video below).
The initial version was already a significant leap forward, transforming the C4 lineup into a more capable and rider-friendly bike, even in a hilly town like mine.
After today’s test, it’s clear that Adaptive Power 2.0 brings another nice upgrade for all C4: Cruiser, Classic, Cross riders. Post-update, the Cruiser offers an enhanced riding experience, making hills easier to climb and extending the enjoyment of flat rides.
Cowboy’s final press release highlights the key features of Adaptive Power 2.0:
Smart — The refined proprietary algorithms now perform 20 calculations per second, responding in real time to a wider range of surroundings and scenarios. This improvement allows you to ride up hills 50% steeper with zero additional pedal power.
Adaptive Power 1.0 allowed riders to tackle hills with a 6% gradient effortlessly. With version 2.0, this capability has been extended to a 9% gradient, based on an 80kg rider traveling at 25kph.
Efficient — By delivering the right amount of power precisely when needed, Adaptive Power 2.0 enhances efficiency. For instance, it conserves 10% more battery power on flat roads. Calculations indicate a 10% battery power saving on flat roads for an 80kg rider at 25kph.
Simple — Despite the powerful enhancements, the system remains user-friendly. There are no buttons, modes, or setups required. Just hop on and ride — Adaptive Power 2.0 handles the rest.
In recent weeks, a lot has happened: DJI entered the e-bike market, Bosch introduced range control, and VanMoof improved their user interfaces. However, Adaptive Power 2.0 is a game changer — a very different category for comparison. It simply renews and enhances the Cowboy Classic, Cruiser, Cross, and ST riding experience. It’s a no-brainer which brand my heart belongs to, but my brain is convinced that Cowboy has once again set a new benchmark in the e-bike market.
